Marieke van Vugt
Dancing your way through life and science
Dr. Marieke van Vugt is Assistant Professor in Cognitive Modeling at the University of Groningen. While she loves her scientific work, she never wanted to give up her other passions–ballet and Buddhism–either.
She found that instead of keeping strict boundaries between her work and her personal life, as is usually suggested in career advice, for her it works much better to break those boundaries and find ways to combine her passions. For example, she found herself not only practicing Buddhism, but also studying it by the means and methods of neuroscience and psychology. She found herself not just practicing dance, but also studying its effects on brain activity.
In this talk, she will share her journey and invite you to also reflect on how to bring together the different areas of your life.
