While doing her PhD in basic biology, Alejandra thought it would be very difficult to get a job outside Academia. Luckily, and thanks to the support of colleagues, friends and her PhD supervisor, she stirred her research project towards data analysis and slowly moved into data science/bioinformatics. Currently she is working at the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and Environment (RIVM) as a senior bioinformatician and as project coordinator of the bioinformatics group. In this talk, she will share how that path went and what she does in her current position(s). Besides, she will share some of the tips she found useful while looking for a position outside Academia (regardless of what that is).
