Theila Smith hails from the island of Jamaica via Brooklyn, NY. Up to a few months ago, she was teaching at a middle school in Brooklyn. her entire professional life has been involved in working with children in some regards. I love organising work, especially around social justice issues. Her life’s aim is to ensure everyone has access in education, science education in particular. She is interested in exploring how informal science learning practices and teachers’ science identities influence students’ science identities. The theoretical framework used to focus this research is within the constructs of identity and culturally responsive pedagogy (culturally sustaining pedagogy). On a not so serious note, she is a sucker for movies with happy endings: romantic comedy is her favourite category on NetFlix. She is also addicted to Asian dramas, especially Chinese historical dramas with a heroine in the leading role.
